1. KEY INGREDIENT

Perlite can be a key ingredient in your orchid potting mix. Using either Orchid Perlite Jumbo or Super Coarse, together with Vermiculite, Bark and Sphagnum Moss can create a light, moisture retentive orchid mix. The JUMBO grade is sold in larger -sized particles. Orchid Plants won’t grow well in normal soil as it does not allow enough air to flow around orchid roots. The idea when potting orchids is to find materials that will anchor orchid roots and keep the mix open permitting air flow. The best products to use are the ones that allow air to move around the roots.

Using horticultural perlite allows for a constant supply of nutrient to the plant. It does this by taking advantage of the unique capillary action of perlite. An outstanding characteristic of using a very open mix including perlite is that hobbyists won’t over-water which means that there is always excellent aeration.
